Founder’s Message
Like most of you visiting this site, Lawn Bowling was not the game of my youth. I didn’t discover it until after my wife passed. My expectations were modest. I was just hoping for a diversion. But then, and to my pleasant surprise, I discovered an activity that engaged me on many levels - user friendly but nearly impossible to master; a wonderful way to connect with a new group of friends; an opportunity to practice and improve between social games and tournaments - and all for a yearly club membership that cost about what I spend for a new pair of Nikes.
I wish everyone could have the experience I am enjoying with Lawn Bowling - and out of this wish was born All Comers.
It started with a tournament I sponsored this past September 2025, at my home club, Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club (HBLBC) in Southern California. The theme of the Tournament was “For the Love of the Game” and it was equal parts competition, celebration and recognition event. It brought together many of the most accomplished bowlers in the Southwest Division. It also brought together a team of club volunteers who exceeded all expectations in their execution of the event.
The reception to the initial All Comers has encouraged me to make the tournament an annual event; held each year over the 3-day Labor Day Weekend at HBLBC.
Next Year’s theme, 2026, will be “Paying it Forward” and shine a light on the ripples generated by investing your time, passion and treasure in service of others.
The first All Comers also left me with a sense the event could be leveraged to garner more attention to the sport and hopefully grow participation. This site is a step towards this aspiration. Through it we hope to collect useful baseline data from all USA Lawn Bowling Clubs; announce and promote member building initiatives; share club “best practices”; sponsor events at other clubs across America; and add new national and international events to our calendar.
Hoping to meet you one day on the rinks for a friendly game.
